Shelves are nice for storage but they can easily begin to look cluttered, particularly when there are many different items confined to a small area. I custom made these DVD/Game holders with items from the local Dollar Tree! They were designed with the back open, to allow easy viewing of the DVD/Games for quick retrieval. A back can also be added to make a complete, enclosed bin for other storage purposes. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
Supplies:
- Foam board - $1 each from Dollar Tree
- Shelf liner/Contact Paper - $1 per roll from Dollar Tree
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
- Scissors and/or utility knife
- Pencil/pen
- Measuring tape and/or shelf (if possible to remove for tracing purposes) and DVD/Game
Instructions:
Bottom piece of bin:
Place shelf on foam board and trace around OR measure shelf and outline depth and length on foam board.
Front of bin:
Measure height of area above specific shelf OR take DVD or Game and lay on foam board to outline hight. Use shelf length measurement OR lay shelf on foam board and trace the length of the shelf.
Sides of bin:
Take height measurement of area above shelf and depth measurement of shelf and outline side OR take DVD or Game and trace around.
Use utility knife or scissors to cut board.
On bottom piece of bin, apply hot glue along edge on one side.
Take front bin piece and affix onto the glue of the bottom piece.
Apply thin layer of hot glue to inside of bottom and front pieces to reinforce.
Apply line of glue to left edge of front and bottom piece. Affix side piece.
Apply hot glue to inside corner/edges of side piece to reinforce.
Repeat steps to affix right side.
Lay self liner/contact paper on flat surface. Measure correct length by 'wrapping' around left side, front and right side of bin. Measure correct height and cut (leaving a little extra on all sides).
Pull off part of one end of shelf liner/contact paper and affix to one side of bin, smoothing down. Wrap shelf liner/contact paper around front and other side of bin, slowly peeling backing a little at a time and smoothing as you go.
Fold ends of shelf liner/contact paper around all sides.
I find cutting a little in the inside corners help the shelf liner/contact paper lay smooth.
Fold down shelf liner/contact paper on bottom of bin.
Apply a thin layer of hot glue around all edges where shelf liner/contact paper meets foam board.
Add DVD's/Games and stick onto shelf. Viola!
