A Birthday Cake fit for a Queen

It's our lovey pooch Pepper's 21st Birthday (in dog years, 3 in human years)!!! To celebrate, I made her a cake fit for the queen she is! I simply mashed 3/8 of a cup of "FreshPet" select food (can find in the refrigerated pet food section) into a round dish for the "cake". I used a packet of "Purina Beyond Natural Beef & Apple Purée" for the "icing" (looks like German chocolate cake icing errr... German Shepard icing doesn't it?!?). And to top it all off, a "Dentist's Best Chewy Treat" to freshen up that post meal doggie breath! Needless to say, she loved it!!!

Stainless Steel Canister find

Picture
Found these stainless steel canisters at Aldi's this week, only $12 for the set of three! These are seriously heavy duty and have the toughest seal of any canister I've found! I'm a recent newlywed so I looked at a lot of canisters over the past year. These also come powder coated in white, black and red. Get these while you can!

Homemade Chicken Zoodle Soup

This soup is so  tasty, you would never know it was healthful and  veggieful!  It is very reminiscent of the  canned soup you had  as a child, except  way way better!  That's why I love it!  If only I could make mini star shaped zoodles!

Homemade Chicken Zoodle Soup

Ingredients:
1 Large Chicken Breast
1.5 Qt Water
3 Cups of Zoodles
2 Stalks of Celery (finely cut)
3 TBSP Chopped Yellow Onion
1 TBSP  Fresh Garlic
2 TBSP French  Fry Seasoning (or all purpose seasoning)
1/4 TBSP Celery Salt

Instructions:
Place chicken breast and water in pot.  Bring to boil.  Boil until chicken is thoroughly cooked.  LEAVING water in pot (this is now your chicken stock.. YAY free chicken stock!) remove chicken and shred.  Add shredded chicken back to chicken stock in pot.  Add remaining ingredients.  Bring to  simmer.  Let simmer until zoodles and  celery are  tender.  Serve hot to warm.  Enjoy!

Zoodle "Pasta" Salad with "Sweet" Italian

1/5/2016

I have been a big pasta salad fan, ever since I was a little kid!  This is a good recipe for those who want to limit their carbs or who just want to add extra veggies into their diet. The naturally "sweet" Italian dressing gives it a flavor kick.  It tastes just like regular pasta salad, so don't let the zucchini scare you if you are not a big zucchini fan! I normally free hand everything in the recipe, but I finally had to formalize it so I can accurately track the nutritional content.  I  like to use the mini pepperonis instead of the full sized however the store I went to did not have it this time, so I diced up the full sized pepperoni.  Buon Appetito!
Picture
Ingredients:
  • 1 Italian dressing packet
  • Garlic powder (to taste)
  • Onion powder (to taste)
  • Basil, dried (to taste)
  • Oregano, dried (to taste)
  • Pepper, black (to taste)
  • 2 packets of Stevia
  • 0.25 cup(s), Red Wine Vinegar .
  • 0.25 cup(s), Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 3 cups, Cooked Zucchini
  • 10 Kalamata Olives, sliced
  • 16 slice(s) Turkey Pepperoni (diced)
  • 0.25 cup(s), Shaved Parmesan Cheese

Directions:
Mix italian seasoning packet, all herbs and stevia with oil and vinegar.  Add in cooked zucchini, kalamata olives (sliced) , pepperoni (diced), and shaved parmesan cheese.  Mix well.  Enjoy!

Custom DVD/Game Bin

11/4/2015

Picture
Shelves are nice for storage but they can easily begin to look cluttered, particularly when there are many different items confined to a small area.  I custom made these DVD/Game holders with items from the local Dollar Tree! They were designed with the back open, to allow easy viewing of the DVD/Games for quick retrieval.  A back can also be added to make a complete, enclosed bin for other storage purposes.  I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!

Supplies:

Picture
  • Foam board - $1 each from Dollar Tree
  • Shelf liner/Contact Paper - $1 per roll from Dollar Tree
  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Scissors and/or utility knife
  • Pencil/pen
  • Measuring tape and/or shelf (if possible to remove for tracing purposes) and DVD/Game

Instructions:

Picture
Bottom piece of bin:
Place shelf on foam board and trace around OR measure shelf and outline depth and length on foam board.

Front of bin:
Measure height of area above specific shelf OR take DVD or Game and lay on foam board to outline hight.  Use shelf length measurement OR lay shelf on foam board and trace the length of the shelf.

Sides of bin:
Take height measurement of area above shelf and depth measurement of shelf and outline side OR take DVD or Game and trace around.
Picture
Use utility knife or scissors to cut board.
Picture
Picture
On bottom piece of bin, apply hot glue along edge on one side.
Picture
Take front bin piece and affix onto the glue of the bottom piece.
Picture
Apply thin layer of hot glue to inside of bottom and front pieces to reinforce.
Picture
Apply line of glue to left edge of front and bottom piece.  Affix side piece.
Picture
Apply hot glue to inside corner/edges of side piece to reinforce.
Picture
Repeat steps to affix right side.
Picture
Lay self liner/contact paper on flat surface.  Measure correct length by 'wrapping' around left side, front and right side of bin.  Measure correct height and cut (leaving a little extra on all sides).
Picture
Pull off part of one end of shelf liner/contact paper and affix to one side of bin, smoothing down. Wrap shelf liner/contact paper around front and other side of bin, slowly peeling backing a little at a time and smoothing as you go.
Picture
Picture
Fold ends of shelf liner/contact paper around all sides.
Picture
I find cutting a little in the inside corners help the shelf liner/contact paper lay smooth.
Picture
Fold down shelf liner/contact paper on bottom of bin.
Picture
Apply a thin layer of hot glue around all edges where shelf liner/contact paper meets foam board.
Picture
Add DVD's/Games and stick onto shelf.  Viola!

No Sew Dog Bed

10/11/2015

Great project to reuse items in your own home instead of purchasing an expensive dog bed.

Picture

Items needed:

  • Cardboard box or plastic tote same size and similar height (or taller) than desired dog bed size
  • One old sheet or blanket large enough for desired bed cover
  • Filling content; I used cleaned but no longer used t-shirts, socks, etc. & other clothing/rags, old pillow, two airline pillows and foam bedding (from a bed store sample but can use old egg crate type etc foam)

Place sheet in box/tote and push down to even out fabric within.
Picture
Roll t-shirts and line edge of box, two layers deep (leave middle empty).
Fill middle of box (between t-shirt) with loose clothing, socks etc.
Place foam/pillows on top (Technically this will be bottom of bed).
Wrap edge of sheet/blanket around contents tightly and flip box over, pulling box off bed.
Tightly tie each and of bed. By now your dog is probably already on it like Pepper was!

Metal-looking baskets

Picture
I bought plastic baskets at my local Dollar Tree for a $1 each, and spray painted them with metallic paint to give them a higher end "metal" look. The Art Deco-esque pattern on these baskets really help make these stand out even more!
